August 18 is not only the opening day for the men's C-2 races of the 2007 Canoe/Kayak Slalom Open but also the birthday of Czech paddler Jiras Marek. When asked what he felt on hearing a birthday song after the race, Jiras said: "Birthday is just an ordinary day to me. However, the day winning the gold medal will be very special."
