Hungary captures gold in women's K-1 500m

Katalin Kovacs of Hungary clocked 150.010 to win the gold of the rain-hit women's K-1 500m final at the 2007 CanoeKayak Flatwater Open today in Beijing.

Among the nine boats in the final, Katalin Kovacs started in Lane 5. Standing at first after the ranking round, Kovacs directly entered today's finals and outraced Carrie Johnson of the United States to win the title.

Johnson grabbed the silver with 150.633 while German Katrin Wagner-Augustin settled for the bronze meda in 150.768.

China's Zhong Hongyan finished sixth in 152.668, much faster than her time of 158.023 achieved in the semifinals two days ago.

Today will also see the finals of the men's C-1 500m, K-2 500m and C-2 500m, and the women's K-2 500m.
