
The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Open entered its third day competitions as the European powerhouses took six gold medals with China grabbing silver in men's C-2 1000m and bronze in women's K-4 500m today.
In the men's K-1 1000 final, Tim Brabants of the UK kept his good form and clocked 3:33.882 to beat Athens Olympic champion Eirik Vearas Larsen of Norway to win the gold.
Despite the victory, Brabants said after the game that he would train much harder for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games for the competition of the event has become increasingly fierce.
In the men's C-1 1000 final, Maxim Opalev of Russia finished in 4:04.516 to capture the gold.
Opalev showed Russia's supremacy of the event as he led nearly one second ahead of the second finisher.
Germany, in the women's K-4 500m final, won the gold by clocking 1:53.347, 0.118 seconds ahead of the second finisher Hungary.
China, composing of Yu Lamei, Yang Yali, Wang Feng and Zhang Hong, ended in 1:37.175 to settle for second runners-up of the event.
In the men's K-2 1000m final, favorites Zoltan Kammerer of Hungary combined with his compatriot Gabor Kucsera to win the gold clocking 3:18.462.
The silver went to Germany and the bronze was taken by France.
Host China did well in the C-2 1000m final as Chen Zhongyun and Zhang Zhiwu gained a silver at the event, clocking 3:40.502, only 0.622 behind of gold medalists Nicolae Flocea and Ciprian Popa of Romania who finished in 3:39.880.
The last final game held today was the men's K-4 1000m. Belarus won the gold in 2:54.834, beating Russia and Slovakia into second and third respectively.
China settled for the fourth in the event. |
