During the 2007 Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Open Mützenmacher Secker Joseph, China's head coach from Germany, said that he expected the Chinese team could win three to four medals at the Beijing Olympic Games, and that he would very much like to see veterans Yang Wenjun and Meng Guanliang paired again to vie for Olympic honors.

After today's final races in the six events, China took one silver, one bronze to rank fourth on the medals tally.

Though Chinese team failed to win any gold medal this time, the German coach praised the paddlers for making steady progress over the past months. "Though we still have much to improve, we have one year left. Our aim is to win three to four medals in next year's Olympic Games. And it will be wonderful if we win a gold medal."

Asked whether Yang Wenjun and Meng Guanliang would be paired again for the Olympics, the German coach said, "Meng Guanliang has regained his form well since he came back to the scene last October. He has already qualified for the Beijing Olympics paired with a younger teammate at this year's World Championships."

"If Meng Guanliang could partner with Yang Wenjun again in the Games," added Joseph, "it will be good to the team. But anyway, it is still a bit early to talk about this."
