The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Open entered its third day on August 25. In the men's K-1 1000m finals staged first, tournament favorite Tim Brabants of Great Britain won with a time of 3:33:882, followed by Ben Fouhy New Zealand and Eirik Vearas Larsen Norway in 3:34:510 and 3:34:554 respectively.
At the post-final press conference Tim said, "I am so happy to win the gold medal. I was in good form and I'm quite satisfied with my performance today."
Commenting on the race, Tim admitted it was actually a hard-won victory. "The event has included many strong competitors, including Eirik Vearas, Olympic champion at Athens 2004 from Norway. However, I just competed in a race two week ago. It was so tough to compete in two races within such a short period of time. Fortunately I was in good form and fought well in today's competition."
As for the course of the ongoing event, Tim ssaid he liked it very much and described it as the best he had ever seen. "I've participated in both the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games. Compared with the canoe/kayak venues there I think the one we have here is the best of all. There is still one year to go before the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, I'm surprised that Beijing has prepared itself so well for the Games with these first-class venues and facilities. I'm looking forward to competing here in 2008." |
