Luo Bing, competition manager of the event, said that everything went smoothly on the opening day of the "Good Luck Beijing"2007 Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Open today.
Two unexpected incidents took place on the day. A Mongolian Kayakist in the women's K-1 500m heats unexpectedly fell down into the water; and there was a starting mistake. However, Luo Bing said that such incidents are nothing unusual in the competition. Fortunately, the Mongolian Kayakist did not get injured, but her result was cancelled according to the rules. The starting error resulted from the competitors contention for the course. Luo Bing continued that staff members would check every link at the end of the day, while such checking procedure will be conducted again before the competition starts next day.
The organizational work for the first day competition was successful, but Luo Bin, who joined in the organization of the canoe/kayak races at the Athens Olympic Games, still had his worries. He said: "We should always remind ourselves to get everything well done, particularly the awarding ceremony which comes after the finals. We should be careful with the preparation as we did not have any experience here with the new venue." |
